There's a new bagel in town!!!!!

Blossom Bagels is a small but growing Artisan Bagel Shop located in my home off Oakland Mills Road in Columbia, MD. I love to experiment and bring together flavors from around the world. I have finally perfected my bagel recipe and I can't wait for you to try them!

Why do I bake bagels?
These bagels make US happy.
Now, I want to make YOU happy!

My love affair with bagels started as a kid with a frozen "you know who" bagel from my family's freezer. Such as it was, here in my hometown. The bagel I really wanted was from a deli in Cleveland, where my mother grew up. I kept searching for the taste and texture, to no avail. Then, when I was 15, I went to New York City for a High School Drama Trip, and lo and behold,  delicious bagels EVERYWHERE. Knowing I couldn't get to NY for my bagel addiction,  I knew I needed to try making my own!

My love affair with cooking began when I was 8, watching PBS cooking shows and quickly writing down recipes...Julia, Jaques, Martin Yan, Lydia, and more. Oy, so many recipes on scraps of paper! I finally found my favorite bagel recipe, though, in my now well-used copy of "Baking with Julia". I would make my free-form bagels, boil them, and bake them. They were not pretty, but they were delicious, and I was happy. Until...
...I went to Montreal to visit my daughter in grad school.

My life changed! Montreal Bagels!!

I have now tweaked my recipe to include this subtly sweet, golden, Montreal-style bagel and I am in love with my bagels - freshly baked, soft, and chewy, or out of the freezer and toasted -
and I can't stop making them. 

But, WAIT, there's more! I have so much fun creating in the kitchen, that I would love to share some of my favorites with you in my newly expanded Home Bakery! These Bakery Bites are also not your average goodies. I have had the good fortune to travel a bit, but when I am not traveling, you can find me
reading cookbooks, collecting recipes, and trying out new flavor combinations that I find "along" the way.
